Saturday Night

I headed down to Denver about 3:00 to meet B at his house. We caught some dinner and headed over to the arena for the Nuggets-Spurs 3rd game. Marcus was awarded the Defensive POY but it didn't help the Nuggets win. It was a decent game but I thought the refs made some questionable calls on the Nuggets. The worst call was a technical foul called against George Karl for "being out of the coaching box". Unfortunately, the Nuggets lost the game 96-91. We were pretty down after the game but decided to go out anyway.

Broecker met us out at the Double Daughter for a couple beers while we decided where we should go next. B got a call from a good friend of ours that promotes shows in Denver. Sammy had put us on the list for the Mini Kiss concert and the Diamond Cabaret. Yes Mini Kiss. This is one of those things where you gotta say you saw it or you'd be kicking yourself later. After another beer, the Mini Kiss show sounded like a really good idea so we headed over there.

We arrived at the Diamond Cabaret to find out that we were in fact, not on the list. The door person had us call Sammy to let us in. He came up to the front, sweet talked the gal, gave her a peck on the cheek and we were in. If you've never been to the Diamond Cabaret, it's a strip club with a steak house attached to it. Sammy took us through the strip club of the bar over to the steak house where he and 12 other people were having dinner. B and I were still in our Nuggz attire while everyone else was dressed to party. I've never seen a more shallow and materialistic bunch of people in my life. I really felt that I needed to get out of there pronto! Luckily, everyone was finishing up and were on their way up to the Mini-Kiss party. Yes, it wasn't a show, it was a party. A birthday party for some guy named Kevin.

We followed Sammy through the club again, through several halls and several flights of stairs to the party. It was very difficult determine who "worked" at the club and who was just an attendee of the party so Broecker, B and I decided to play "Stripper or Not a Stripper." Good times and unbelievable people watching! Of course Mini Kiss was slated to go on at any time and the place was buzzing with excitement. We had several $12 drinks and then it finally happened, with the theme song of "2001: A Space Odyssey" Mini Kiss took the stage. They really looked like Kiss but smaller. As they were about to start their first song, there was incredible feedback noise coming out of the speakers overhead. Mini Kiss started unfazed to the unbearable noise. The sound guy finally got the noise under control and we could hear the music. Something was not right. The drummer wasn't hitting the drums, nor were they actually even singing. It turns out that they were going air band with the original Kiss music in the background. What a complete let down! We decided that we need to get the hell out of there but had a really hard time finding the way out. Visions of the Great White disaster crossed my mind.

After negotiating several more halls and stairs we found ourselves on the street. The next stop: The British Bulldog. It couldn't have been more different than the Diamond Cabaret. A beer soaked, B.O. smelling bar full of Australian Rules football players. We drank a couple pints and watched the Kangas on the big screen. A nice way to end a very eventful evening.
