100 degree Button Rock Hike

We hiked Button Rock Preserve today in the 100+ degree heat. Probably wasn't the brightest idea but it was good to get some exercise. The Sleeping Lion loop is about 4.9 miles but we probably covered over 5 miles after going up onto the dam to check out the reservoir. I couldn't help looking fish in the St. Vrain river as we hiked back to the car. I always assumed that you needed an extra permit to fish within the Preserve, but after talking to a Ranger at the gate, it turns out you only need a permit if you're going to fish in the reservoir. He also told us that only 500 permits are issued a year. This would be a great place to take the boys fishing with a picnic lunch and not see many people. I'll be pursuing a permit next year.

We got back to the car hot, tired and hungry. What do you do when your close to Lyons and your house doesn't have A/C? You goto Oskar Blues! As usual it was excellent and a nice break from the heat. We had to get back up to the house quickly because Oliver and Fabian were throwing a B-day party for Anne and Micha. They made some tasty Austrian cakes and a traditional Swiss dinner that was essentially a fancy mac and cheese (Fine imported Swiss cheese + bacon + noodles + potatoes = Yum!).
